What we'll explore in our 3 weeks together:
How to "unfurl" mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually
Drafting and distilling what we care about in an embodied way
how to feel more joy and aliveness in microdosed, messy, imperfect, and playful way
How to find our own practical and personal pathways to feel more alive (everyone has different combinations)
how to feel more resourced in a somatic way, that we can call on whenever we need
Being with our "wise protectors" the parts of us that may resist unfurling, to allow them to soften and open
Creating easeful everyday rituals for joy and aliveness
How to be with expansion and contradictions in an embodied way
Allowing ourselves to be chaotic, messy, imperfect to allow new ways of being
How to complete and integrate practices, and come back to centre
Strategies to build our capacity to feel more alive in everyday life
How to soften, open and yield to ourselves, others, intimacy, connection, and the earth
And how to do all of these together, in tender ways at the extent we feel comfortable to do so
We will explore and resource ourselves with practices like intuitive movement, embodiment, play, reflective journalling and sharing, art therapy and somatic practices.
All of these practices are opportunities to pause, self listening, and playfully experiment with feeling more alive and aligned in our feelings, actions and what we care about most. Easier to say, and harder to do!
We will experiment with how to soften, open our soma (whole self) to be more receptive to the choices for pleasure and aliveness in everyday moments. All while being grounded and centred.
> Why aliveness, pleasure and embodiment?
I used to be a sex educator, and came to realise sexual pleasure is one of many pathways to feeling more pleasure, on what I call the âpleasure spectrumâ. But why pleasure? Pleasure because it makes us feel more alive, and increases our quality of life and presence.
Why âembodimentâ because when weâre aware of our thoughts, feelings, sensations weâre able to have better quality of connection with ourselves, each other, the land, and spirit (if you have one) and remember our mutuality.
Pleasure is a direct path to quality of life and feeling more alive.
Embodiment is a direct path to feeling more nourishing connection.
> Why playfulness and silliness?
Mini Unfurling isnât a psychological, therapeutic, âhealingâ space. Itâs silly and sincere, reverent and irreverent play space!
So often it feels like we need to prove ourselves and endure challenges before weâre allowed to feel aliveness and pleasure. Like we need to be the valiant knight who slays the dragon, saves the princess before weâre allowed to feel good.
But what if we felt aliveness and pleasure in microdosed, messy, imperfect, playful ways WHILE weâre experimenting with how to feel more aliveness and pleasure generally?
We get to feel playful and joyous, even when we feel tenderness and resistance.
> Why âunfurlâ?
Weâve been taught to fear what might arise if we pause and listen and be with ourselves, our bodies, and our pleasure. So we brace and distance ourselves from our own thoughts, feelings, and sensations. Dissociation, bracing and resistance are all incredibly wise strategies to keep us safe and belonging (I have a whole section on this in my book), yet over time we might outgrow these responses but still feel âstuckâ in these now outdated safety strategies.
So Mini Unfurling is how to safely and playfully loosen the grip on these safety strategies, to soften and open to more aligned ways of being that support us now.
All of the practices we will explore are opportunities for pausing, self listening, and playfully experimenting with feeling more alive and aligned in our feelings, actions and what we care about most. Easier to say, and harder to do!
We will experiment with how to soften, open our soma (whole self) to be more receptive to the choices for pleasure and aliveness in everyday moments. All while being grounded and centred.
> Why together? Our collective crisis of disconnection and distrust.
For most of us, pleasure and aliveness feels like the melody thatâs always playing but weâve forgotten the words to, or the dance we were born knowing but now stumble doing.
Aliveness and pleasure are inherent to existing, but weâve been actually socialised to distrust, dampen, distance and deprioritise them (wow, so many Ds).
It can be so affirming to hear each otherâs similar and different experiences.
Mini Unfurling is a space to remember our collective socialisation, and humbly fumble together while we remember and feel our aliveness and pleasure.
Mini Unfurling is ideal if you:
have existing practices and want to deepen them, or you are newer to developing practices to feel more alive.
have read my book and want to support to dive deeper.
have been in Unfurling before, and want to feel supported in another season of exploring your aliveness and pleasure.
want to explore somatic coaching that is a combination of silly and sincere.
want to understand your own "pathways" to feel more alive in everyday life.

Frequently asked questions:
> Iâm intrigued but nervous. How do I know if this is the right time to join?
So exciting that youâre curious! Feel free to send me questions and feels you might have that will support you to know. A great practice for this can be ask yourself the question, and seeing what your thoughts, feelings, and sensations say! May itâs a âyes, but Iâm nervousâ, or âyes, but I need more infoâ then reach out to me! Or go talk to a tree, go for a swim, sit on the earth and ask your body and sensations if this is what you need and want at the moment.
LOGISTICS QUESTIONS:
> What is a group session like?
Sessions are 120-minute Zoom video sessions, with live captioning. In every session, we begin with landing and grounding practices, and then go into exploration of practices, with time to share and reflect during and after practices.
In each session, we will have breaks to be off screen. But during the session we also really encourage you to snack, move, eat and do whatever you need to feel more ease and comfort.
> Do I need to be on video to attend?
In each session, everyone is encouraged to have their videos on (even if the video is turned towards a window or wall and not on you). But you can be on camera or off camera, you choose your level of comfort and engagement you need. People are also encouraged to share through the chat box and unmute and share.
> Is it ok to miss a session? Are sessions recorded so I can catch up after?
Ideally you can attend all sessions live as this is the most supportive experience. But we totally get that life is life-ing, so if you need to skip a session, then all sessions are recorded so you can watch them after!
> What is the time commitment for UNFURLING?
There are 3 weekly sessions, each 2 hours long, and the Telegram group chat you can share in between sessions.
Between sessions, there is no official study or homework, but we encourage you to tend to building a pleasure practice through imperfectly microdosing pleasure, self-reflection and movement that you learn in the sessions. While of course integrating into your life at the pace that you need.
PRACTICES FOCUSED QUESTIONS:
> What does âsomaticsâ mean?
âSomaâ is a Greek word that means âwholeâ, and somatics is a umbrella coined by Thomas Hanna in 1976, to group lots of different healing modalities that were being practiced in and around Esalen Institute. Often they were grouped to mean âbody focusedâ, but really âsomaâ is referring to the whole, so itâs about including thoughts, feelings, sensations and connection to land and spirit. Beyond what most of healing and psychology was focusing on at the time.
Itâs important to note that the majority of these Esalen based practitioners were White, and the majority of these ânewâ modalities in the 1970s drew on lineages and wisdom from Indigenous wisdom across the world, and non-White practices that have existed for countless generations with little or no acknowledgement of the extraction and coopting of these practices.
> What is âintuitive movementâ?
How I define and practice intuitive movement is as: a free movement practice guided by self-trust. Itâs a playful ritual to pause, listen, remember and rekindle self-trust. In the practice you allow your pleasure to guide your movements, and respond to your sensations, impulses, needs and wants.
The intention is to allow yourself to move, to be moved, become unstuck, express emotions, soften, shift states, open yourself, be fluid, and be receptive. To feel what is there waiting to be heard.
Different movements can reveal different feelings and experiences, and in turn expand our spectrum of known choices and embodied free will.
COURSE STRUCTURE FOCUSED QUESTIONS:
> How many people are in UNFURLING?
It is capped at 32 people, so that everyone can have space to share and receive support.
> What is your approach to privacy?
In the group, we have a privacy agreement: âwhat is said here, stays here. What is learnt here, leaves here.â So what you share remains in the group.
Sessions are recorded for those who canât make it live, and hosted on Zoom or Google Drive, with access through the online group space.
FACILITATOR SUPPORT FOCUSED QUESTIONS:
> What is your experience and competency for working with Black, Indigenous, and People of People of Colour?
Currently, about 40% of my clients are People of Colour. I work with Indigenous people, Black people, and Brown people in all my offerings.
I am committed to building safety in myself and my offerings for people of colour to feel confident to work with me. To support my racialised unlearning and transmuting my Whiteness, I have mentors, a coach, ongoing racialised somatic training, and self-organised politicised healing group focused on unlearning Whiteness. These spaces are to support me to generally learn and process any harm I may cause, without putting on expectation or responsibility on my clients to help me do this.
For Mini Unfurling, Toya Ricci, is the groupâs somatic support person, who can offer direct support in sessions you if you need or want.
> Are you open to working with people you already know personally?
Yes, I am open to working with people I know or have existing relationships with (except immediate family). Iâd love to support and resource you.
I hold privacy and a distinction between work and life with high rigour and clarity. I wonât mention you or any details of working together with anyone. The only exception is if I see you in person and you mention it, then I will respond.
My only request is that you donât expect to share updates or ask for guidance outside sessions and group spaces unless I ask and invite them.
> Iâm currently processing a crisis and/or trauma, and need support and resourcing. Is UNFURLING the right space to do this?
In short, no. Although I have training in trauma and crisis support, I am not a therapist or trauma specialist.
> Where are you based?
I live on Tongva land/Los Angeles, California. And, I was born on unceded Wurundjeri land, known as Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.
